What is Spooky Pooches Howl-o-ween?

Spooky Pooches Howl-o-ween is Apalachicola’s annual Halloween celebration for four-legged family members — a free, family-friendly afternoon where costumed pups take over downtown. Start at Riverfront Park to grab a trick-or-treat map, then stroll through Apalachicola’s pet-friendly downtown shops while local merchants greet the pups with special Halloween treats.

What to expect

The park hosts a Halloween photo booth, free treats and pupuccinos for the dogs, and homemade gumbo, fresh local oysters, and baked goods for purchase for the humans. One of the day’s biggest draws is the Franklin County Humane Society’s adoption event — dogs and cats looking for forever homes. Whether you’re ready to adopt or just want to meet some wonderful animals, it’s worth the stop. Check the official event listing for updates as the day approaches.

Where to stay for Spooky Pooches

Make a weekend of it on the coast. A Collins Vacation Rental on SGI puts you about 15 minutes from Apalachicola’s Riverfront Park — Halloween fun on the mainland Saturday, beach morning on St. George Island Sunday. Book direct with the local island team. (Pups welcome in many of our homes — ask the office when you book.)
