About St. George Island: The Plantation
St. George Plantation is a unique gulf- and bay-front recreational community on the west end of St. George Island. The integrity of the island's landscape has been preserved in this area with winding streets and an extremely low density of single family homes. Raised wooden walkways provide direct beach access and protect the delicate sand dunes. Special building restrictions and protective covenants have also been utilized, as well as limited access, 24-hour security and underground utilities.
The Plantation, with over five miles of the most beautiful, pristine white-sand beaches, offers an ideal combination of seclusion and convenience - a new three quarter Olympic size community swimming pool, shaded picnic area, fitness room and beautiful clubhouse. Amenities also include three tennis courts, a 3,200-foot paved, privately owned/public use landing strip, and privileged access to excellent fishing and magnificent sunsets at Bob Sike's Cut. Heavily wooded streets that criss-cross the area are ideal for bicyclists, jogging and walking enthusiasts.
Scattered throughout the Plantation are individually-owned cottages and homes built on pilings, with many different architectural designs. A select number of them, ranging in size from three to seven bedrooms, are furnished and decorated according to each owner's preference, and offered for rental.
